Battle of Princeton
On January 3, 1777, the battle of Princeton ended and it lasted 9 days. After the battle, 40 people died altogether and 60 were wounded during the battle of Princeton. At Princeton, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Mawhood commanded at least 1,200 men into battle. The soldiers' order was to keep Princeton safe since it was Cornwallis’ primary route of communication to British-occupied New York City. John Cadwalader told his soldiers to retreat. Washington ordered the soldiers of John Cadwalader into war to help the retreating soldiers, but the soldiers initially stopped upon sighting the British. Then Washington appeared on the battlefield and calmed the soldiers. Washington personally directed the American musket fire at John Fitzgerald everyone thought Washington would die. Then they WON the battle. The battle was the first success won by General George Washington in the field. These victories followed shortly after a series of defeats. But it does not change the fact that they won that battle for America. This was one of the major battles that happened during this war. 200 were captured during this battle so we hope for their safe return home and pray for those who died. That is all that happened during the Princeton war that happened on January 3, 1777.

Battle of Saratoga
On September 19, 1777, the battle of Saratoga started and it ended on October 17, 1777. The battle lasted 18 days and 440 killed and 695 wounded for both sides. It was a major turning point for the Revolutionary War and it was a very important battle. The battle of Saratoga took place in the fields of New York, a few miles south of the town of Saratoga. The British, General John Burgoyne was attempting to get into New England from Canada to keep New England from the United States. It began when General Burgoyne moved some of his soldiers in an attempt to get into Bemis Heights, a place in america. On October 8 Burgoyne began to retreat, but Gates, who now had 20,000 men, was with him at Saratoga. Then on October 17, Burgoyne surrendered his soldiers under the Convention of Saratoga, which provided for the return of his men to Great Britain on condition that they would not serve again in North America during the war. This is another one of the great battles that America won in the Revolutionary War. The Continental Army persevered and won a decisive victory at the Battle of Saratoga. That is all that happened during the Battle of Saratoga. It was a very impressive victory for the United States and we lost way fewer people than Britain.

Battle of Germantown
The Battle of Germantown started and ended on October 4, 1777. It lasted about 5 hours. 11,000 Americans and 9,000 British fought in the battle. A total of about 1,111 American soldiers died and 533 British soldiers died. The battle started in an attempt to get back Philadelphia after British forces captured it. It played an important role in the outcome of the Revolutionary war. Though the British won this battle gave the continental army the confidence it needed. In the night Washington had divided his army so they would be ready to attack in the morning. John Sulliven (the British general) attacked with one force. The British beat the americans. This was a very important battle also for the war because this showed the British that the Americans could fight back. It also showed them that they weren't going to go down without a fight. So now we know that the Americans won.Unfortunately for Washington the fog and darkness delayed the attacks .That is all that happened in the battle of germantown.

Valley Forge
Valley Forge started on December 19, 1777. Valley Forge lasted 6 months long. Nearly 2,000 men died of disease. Dedicated surgeons, nurses, a smallpox inoculation program, and camp sanitation regulations limited the death at Valley Forge. The army at Valley Forge was 2 miles long and they had to make 12,000 loaves of bread a day. At the beginning 12000 soldiers and people started to build the essentials and it became the 4th largest city in the colonies. It had 1,500 huts for the people who lived there. During the battle, American soldiers were led to the battlefield by General George Washington and they fought the British soldiers. At the end of the battle, the Americans won and the British fled the scene. Sickness was one of the main causes of death because it was cold out there in December. So they were shot, cold, or sick. It was not just the Americans who died from the cold, it was also the British who died from the cold. One in six people in the battle died from sickness or cold. But the reason those numbers went down was because General Washington ordered that people be sanitized and not be dirty. So people stopped getting sick as often. That was all that happened at Valley Forge.

On August 16, 1777, the Battle of Bennington started. 237 people died in the battle of Bennington 207 of them were British and 30 were American. The battle of Bennington lasted two days. It started when the Americans camped at Fort Edward in New York had run out of supplies and horses after he traveled from Montreal. He ordered 375 of his soldiers, led by German Lieutenant Colonel Friedrich Baum, to attack a supply place in Bennington. American soldiers routed a British force trying to capture provisions stockpiled at Bennington, Vermont. The Americans tried their best to succeed and in the end THEY WON. They had even only lost 30 men in the battle. They were led by general George Washington to victory. The British did win the battle after this battle but they still always tried their hardest when it came to fighting the British. The British thought they would win but the statistics say they were losing 2000 men while America was losing 200. So in the end the Americans were always ahead of the british. That is all that happened in the battle of Bennington that ended on August 18, 1777.
